Since everyone has been asking "How did it happen?"
After a wonderful day of driving from Florence, visiting Lucca, seeing the leaning Tower of Pisa, and arriving in Viareggio with enough time for a quick swim in the Mediterranean, we took a quick shower, headed to the top of the hotel for a glass of wine, and watched the sun set. Our hotel was the Palace Hotel in Viareggio. The Palace hotel is a wonderful, boutique style hotel and is a tourist destination for many Europeans due to the beautiful beach. The hotel sits across the street from the beach with a rooftop that provides spectacular views of the sea.
After finishing our first glass of wine and reminiscing about the day, Rodger told Valerie how he had never been happier in his entire life and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Valerie replied that she was just as happy. Rodger dropped down on one knee and asked Valerie "Will you marry me?" With tears flowing down her cheeks, she said "Yes, I'll marry you."
We finished our wine, watched the sun drop below the horizon, and had dinner at an amazing little restaurant right on the beach. Priceless!!
