Russian School of Math
Celebrating Abby's last class at Russian School of Math with an ice
cream treat... I asked her if she was excited to be done with math for
the summer and she said "no". When asked why, Abby explained that "math
is good for her brain". That answer deserved a medium cone, don't you
think!?!

Memorial Day Weekend Trip to Washington DC
Our trip to Washington DC 2017 was a huge success! Rodger had been out there for a few days prior for a conference, and first met up with Mom, Dad and Abby at our hotel, the Capital Hilton which was just two blocks away from the White House. Sophie and I arrived in the middle of the night eager for a full day of sightseeing. Because it was Memorial Day weekend, each day the girls were dressed in red, white and blue attire and of course were complimented on their adorable Patriotic outfits. Day one: Rodger woke before the sun to take photos of famous buildings at sunrise while the rest of us slept in from the late flight, then we rented a car and drove to George Washington's home Mount Vernon.

For dinner on the first evening, we went to the famous "Old Ebbitts" and had the best meal of the weekend. (except for Sophie) I highly recommend going here for a trip to DC. The girls were also enjoying their photo scavenger hunt and took many pictures of items on their list. I was particularly impressed with how much they had learned and were attentive to on our trip. They loved the tours and kept interested in learning the entire time. It really helped that they have interest in Alexander Hamilton, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson due to the popularity of "Hamilton". We had to make stops in most gift shops looking for certain gifts pertaining to these items. But overall, these girls were so great on the trip. Day one ended with a night bus tour of the highlights of Washington DC including with monuments and memorials. This was a great way to see the main parts of the city without walking around but also see it all lit up at night.
Day two: Capital tour... I was most worried that this would not be fun for kids but wow... they did great! The tour guides made the information accessible to all and made it interesting and fun. There was kid information booklets and things to do and everyone had a great time in the Capital.
We also went to the National Archives and the Botanical Gardens which made for a full day. Dinner was at "The Hamilton", just because. We ran into our friend Edith from Florida on the tour.

Glad that Mom and Dad were able to join in the trip with us |
On the last day, we ate breakfast at a place called "Founding Farmers", which is a must go to for DC. Then our last stop was the Air and Space Museum.

Sophie and Mom selfies
Sophie and Mom had a special time together as we took a separate flight to Washington DC. Here were a few special shots that needed to be blogged of our time together. She was so excited to have this time alone with me.
Let's celebrate the end of school!
OK, I'll admit it. I probably deserve one of the worst mom awards because it didn't even dawn on me until about 9 am when I was sitting at my desk at school during plan period and checking Facebook that I saw a zillion and a half people posting photos of kids "last day of school photos". Huh? Last day of school photos? OH yeah, let me remind you of our first day of school photos. The ones where Abby had a mosquito bite the size of her eyeball and it was nearly closed shut from the "kindergarten get to know you party" the day before where she had no bug repellent put on her because I wasn't there and was at school. Or the photo of Sophie who was annoyed because her hair didn't look quite so good so she pouted and didn't want to take a picture when I asked her to smile. Yeah, those first day of school photos. Ha... so that LAST day of school photo...yeah, it didn't even occur to me to take it at all. I guess I was too busy getting Watson to the dog kennel, two kids over to Grandma's house by 6:45 am, packing suitcases for our trip, or making last minute lunches. Thank goodness for Mrs. Kelly who took a few as well as friends and Grandma who took a few to capture our last day of school as it was quite a celebration!
Congrats to Abby. She was awarded for being a great at-home reader with her "book baggie" books. She also received an award for answering 4,500 IXL math questions this year. Mrs. Kelly's questions answered 20,000 questions, and dear Abby answered about one-fourth of them herself. What a math star.
Thanks to the Metzgers for their friendship, rides, and afterschool help. Thanks for the sleepovers and snacks and playdates that come along with being neighbors and friends.

Happy Birthday, Xander
Kendall Park Kindergarten Soccer
Congratulations to the Kindergarten girls for the most amazing soccer season! These girls have been together for four or five seasons now and have had their best year yet... and they are only 6 years old. This team has learned to listen and play well together; and, they also play what they practice in the games too. The team went undefeated for the season, but also were not scored upon the entire season. This is quite an accomplishment considering there is no official goalie position for this level! Abby has grown to understand the game better and is much more aggressive when playing. She even scored a goal!! Everyone wants to be on Coach Rodger's team, which is such an honor. (... probably because of the video and end of year party of course...) Looking forward to next season already!

First grade snapshot
Here is some info about Sophie written by Sophie at the end of first grade. I am looking forward to reading this in the future to see if she still has the same fears, hopes and dreams!

What did Abby learn this year...
Abby learned so many things in Kindergarten. But one of her most important lessons that really struck home with her is that every day she needs to "wear her smile". What an important lesson that I love that she has remembered and even chose to journal about at the end of the school year.
Happy Mother's Day
Here are some photos from Mother's Day brunch at Cress Creek. We were able to have the whole family together for a great time. I'm so happy to be able to have my Mom so close to me my entire life to help me and be there for me and my family.

Lion King
The girls enjoyed seeing Stella, Lilly, Ellie and Nora in this production of the Lion King. All of them were great, especially Nora as Pumbaa!
