Baby #2 update
Our lives these days are not just about Sophie and Watson. Baby #2 is on the way and growing. I'm at 16 weeks now, and doing well. We have had two ultrasounds and all looks fine. I've only gained a few pounds, which is dramatically different than last time. There is no doubt that I'm pregnant, I'm fitting fine into maternity pants this week. The only bad news to report is that the back pain of second trimester has begun... and it is no fun. I'm back to wearing a SI brace daily with shooting pains down my legs. Oh well, at least I know baby is growing and we are happy about that! The ultrasound that will tell us the sex of the child is only 3 weeks away! Any guesses?
It's pumpkin time!!
Because of her chicken pox outbreak, Sophie was banned from her cousin's Scooby Doo birthday party. In order to console her, Daddy decided to take her to the pumpkin patch for some apple cider and donuts. It worked. She's a big fan of the apple cider donuts AND a big fan of these big orange things that are as big is she is! Someday, we will laugh at the fact that the pumpkins were bigger than she was! Mommy promises that in the next pumpkin photo will be a Sophia girl dressed in appropriate Halloween wear. It's September... cut her a little slack!
Chicken Pox, really?
Sophie went to the Doctor's office for a diaper rash just to find out that she was infected with Chicken Pox. It is most likely from her 12 month old shots, where she received her vaccine. It is apparently a mild case, and as you can see from the photo.. hasn't affected her in any way. She does have about 30 dots on her body, which have disappeared in a matter of three days.

Sophie's new shoes
Mommy and Daddy bought Sophie her first pair of running shoes... We hope that she will actually learn to run someday(and teach both of us how to do it)!!
Apple Cider Donuts
Even though it is not yet October, we had to take a quick trip to the pumpkin farm. Daddy was in the mood for apple cider, which goes great with apple cider donuts. Sophie is a big fan. We will return to the farm in October for more!!

I'm ready for my treat....
Watson is patiently waiting for Halloween and his first opportunity to go trick or treating. He's really just interested in the treats though, as you can see in the picture as he is sitting waiting for a doggie snack. This is Watson's new costume. He is going to be a Lion for halloween. Sophie's costume will have to coordinate, so beware of the animals this Halloween!!

St. Louis Zoo
Sophie enjoyed her first trip to the Zoo. She was particularly fond of the elephants and the baby giraffe. We stood and stared at that giraffe for 15 minutes! If she could have, Sophie would have crawled into the cage and talked to it. Over the same weekend, Sophie experienced the St. Louis balloon glow. What a cool sight to see, no matter how old you are!

Garden Party
From flowers made out of balloons to butterfly pasta salad, the garden theme was carried throughout the party. Grandma worked hard to have a beautiful garden outside, and the weather held out just in time for us to have a great party. Sophie ate cheese on butterfly crackers, chocolate chip dip with bug shaped graham crackers, fresh fruit and veggies from the garden, Portillo's beef sandwiches, and cupcakes decorated to match our theme. Here are some pictures of the party...
Come for the parade, Stay for the party
The theme of Sophie's first birthday party was a Garden theme. Bugs, butterflies, and flowers could be found all over the place. The party was supposed to be come watch the parade at Grandma and Papa's house and stay for the party, but the stupid construction project downtown Naperville changed the parade route. We had to walk two blocks to the parade, which was fine. Here are some parade pictures...
Last Fling Weekend
The Guebert family was very busy this Last Fling Labor Day weekend. Loran visited us from SIU, along with Grandma Janis, Grandpa, and even Edith from Florida! At the Last Fling, Sophie entered the Diaper Derby. She didn't win, but we were very proud that she crawled well and didn't give up! (she also didn't walk and get disqualified...) Andy and Margret were again in charge of the apple pie eating contest. Rodger, the former champion, entered the contest which ended in a tie. However, the other contestant should have been disqualified for cheating thus making Rodger the official winner again. It is all about the bragging rights!
The highlight of the weekend was Sophie's birthday party and parade. I'll dedicate a few posts to tell you all about it.
