Slaving over a hot stove

It rained this Memorial Day, and the parade was cancelled due to lightning. It didn't stop this little one from having a fun day. Friends and family gathered at Grandma and Papa's house for an indoor picnic. Sophie served up a great meal in her kitchen.

Centennial Beach

Alas, Sophie has been a part of a very important tradition here in Naperville. She has gone to "the beach"... So, along with Grandma, Papa, Mommy, and Daddy - Sophie put her toes in the water and played in the sand. Unfortunately, she took a bit of a tumble and had a fat lip in some of the photos. All in all, it was a great way to cool off on a very hot day Memorial Day weekend. Bring on the Beach for the summer!!

My very own swimming pool

Sophie enjoyed a hot May afternoon in her new swimming pool. She splashed and layed down and kicked... and has a blast. She'll be a swimmer before the summer is over!

I'm 8 months old!!

Sophie has not yet mastered crawling, but she is very interested in
walking. She loves to take her 'steps' to go between Mommy and Daddy.
This week, she has also cut 3 more teeth. She has 4 on the bottom and
one on the top. She also says "ma" which could mean Mom or could mean
more... As in more yogurt treats!! We are having lots of fun lately,
except when she is completely clingy and crying!!

Loran and her travels

Congrats to big sister Loran, she is now officially a Junior in college. Loran just finished her last finals at SIU for the semester, where she is achieving great success. Over the summer, Loran is again embarking on some great adventures, which begins with a trip to Alaska with two of her college friends. Since her flight left from Chicago, she was able to spend a weekend with us. We took her to Starved Rock, ate a stuffed sweet potato at Claim Jumper, visited downtown Chicago, and even ate Chicago-style pizza. Here are a few pictures of the two sisters together.

Happy Mother's Day

Sophie gave Mommy a pretty potted flower that she made at day care. Daddy and Sophie also gave Mommy a new purse (so she doesn't have to use the diaper bag all of the time). Thanks for a memorable first Mother's day.

Holland's Tulip Festival

Rodger, Sophie, and Valerie went to Holland, Michigan for a wonderful spring day. We saw the flowers, ate lunch outside, and visited our favorite pie destination, Crane's Bakery. It was a fun day for the family.
